Construction Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY

This associate is responsible for ensuring that Rivertown Landscapes quality standards are being bet and procedures are being followed on each site in a safe and efficient manner by our crews at all times. This associate is also responsible for training the all crews on policy and procedures, as well as supervising the overall activities of the crew associates.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Follow company policies, procedures, and work standards.
  • Ensure Crew Leader is following policy and procedures.
  • Responsible for overseeing implementation of Rivertown construction contracts to Rivertown standards and specifications.
  • Lead foreman safety and training meetings.
  • Track job progress, coordination of labor, machinery and materials.
  • Train all crew members on techniques, equipment operation, pest identification and control measures.
  • Provide crews with daily schedules and instructions.
  • Supervise the daily activities and performance of the Construction crews.
  • Handle problems and concerns on the job site, both from external clients and associates.
  • Maintain accurate list of crew members and jobsite locations.
  • Review all time sheets for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist with completion of performance review forms for Crew Leaders and Crew Members.
  • Interact daily with the other Production and Office Staff, including assisting in the scheduling of jobs.
  • Communicate with the Design Team and offers technical assistance and problem resolution.
  • Communicate with ownership on equipment needs and use.
  • Consistently evaluates work and determine if further steps are needed to meet internal and external client expectations.
  • Complete appropriate paperwork in a timely manner and ensure accuracy of all paperwork, including, time-off requests, Injury
  • Reports, Personnel Action Memos, Corrective Actions, and other necessary information.
  • Arrive for each work day on time and prepared.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in and contribute to Rivertown initiatives.
  • Assist in the orientation/training of new Team Members.
  • Assist other team members in the performance of their assignments.
  • Recommend process improvements and areas to improve our service offerings to clients.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position is responsible for assigning, reviewing, and checking work of other employees.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

The minimum level of formal education desirable to successfully perform the duties of this position:

  • HS Diploma

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 5 years experience in landscape construction, or equal.
  • Valid CDL license.
  • Ability to operate all machinery required by Rivertown Landscapes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blue prints and job specifications.
  • Valid Certified Landscape Technician license, or desire to obtain one.
  • Minimize non-productive time and fill slow periods with activities that will enable you to prepare to meet the future needs of internal and external clients.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with external clients and Rivertown associates on a consistent basis.
  • Ability to lead and direct others in an effective manner.
  • Demonstrate a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to deliver quality results under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of general computer functions and Microsoft Office programs.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work requires intermittent physical activity including standing, reaching and of sitting. Physical requirements may also include lifting, bending, walking, and pushing on an occasional basis. This position works outdoors in various whether conditions, including heavy snow and ice. This position has exposure to chemicals and solvents, and possible fumes, requiring protective equipment to be worn. Work requires driving a car/truck to various job locations. Responsibilities may require evening and weekend work in response to client needs and deadlines.

Landscape Designer / InternConstruction Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY

This position assists the Design Team in preparing quality landscape designs, construction documents, estimates and proposals for presentation to clients. This position also interacts with the office and production staff on a regular basis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Follow company policies, procedures, and work standards.
  • Produces quality landscape design with supporting materials such as sketches, elevations, rendered plans, etc.
  • Creates quality and unique designs within budget parameters and on a timely basis.
  • Assists Design Team in completing a site survey and analysis of project(s) with accuracy and on a timely basis.
  • Assists Design Team in preparing project packages of required drawings, estimates and proposals.
  • Communicates with Principals and Design Team as required to update project status.
  • Appropriately follows and maintains design process and standards, including planting standards and AutoCAD standards.
  • Works independently and within a team on special and nonrecurring, as well as ongoing projects.
  • Develops grading and drainage plans in accordance to site engineering principles.
  • Uses appropriate survey equipment on various client sites.
  • Provides accurate, professional plans and details for construction department and sub-contractors in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Ensures efficient process and information flow for workload requirements.
  • Identifies zoning and building codes, permit requirements, etc. related to project.
  • Consistently evaluate work and determine if further steps are needed to meet internal and external client expectations.
  • Prepares accurate estimates and take offs.
  • Develops bid sheets.
  • Maintain high standard of quality of all work performed.
  • Communicate problems, client concerns, associate matters, etc. to the Design and Marketing Director in a timely manner.
  • Participate in departmental and training meetings.
  • Complete appropriate paperwork in a timely manner and ensure accuracy of all paperwork, including, time-off requests, and other necessary information.
  • Arrive for each work day on time and prepared.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in and contribute to Rivertown Landscapes initiatives.
  • Assist in the orientation/training of new Team Members.
  • Assist other team members in the performance of their assignments.
  • Recommend process improvements and areas to improve our service offerings to clients.
  • Participate in other department and business functions as needed (i.e. the snow removal process in emergencies, holiday retail, administrative support, etc.).

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Field of Major Study (if applicable): Landscape Architecture or Horticulture, with an emphasis in Design.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous experience in the landscape industry (i.e. design internship, etc.) preferred.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of landscape terminology, plant materials, applicable construction materials and coordination in design.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of site engineering and use of survey equipment.
  • Ability to understand the “Rivertown” approach to Design/Build and follow Rivertown standards.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, including taking direction and constructive feedback from team members, as well as providing feedback to other team members..
  • Demonstrate flexibility to perform duties wherever volume deems it necessary.

Landscape Lead Hand

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the guidance of an experienced Crew Leader, train to supervise and lead Crew Members offsite by following standard Mariani work methods and practicing safe work habits to ensure production of the crew is as efficient and safe as possible. This position is mentored by a Crew Leader for at least one full season before advancing to the Crew Leader level.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Train to perform the duties and responsibilities of a formal Crew Leader.
  • Ensure Crew Members understand and follow company policies, procedures, and work standards in the absence of the Crew Leader.
  • Act as a resource and liaison to Mariani clients while at the job site.
  • Communicate observations and needs to the Crew Leader.
  • Operate necessary equipment to perform the job, including more advanced equipment required for the Crew Leader position.
  • Coordinate certain work activities at the job site with respect to timeframe, safety, and skills and capabilities of individual Crew Members in the absence of the Crew Leader, or at the direction of the Crew Leader.
  • Maintain high standard of quality of all work performed.
  • Follow proper safety procedures and standards on a regular basis.
  • Participate in the work performed at each job site, including pruning, digging, mulching, etc.
  • Assist the Crew Leader with completion of appropriate paperwork to learn importance and job flow.
  • Participate in all necessary Mariani training with relation to equipment and safety.
  • Arrive for each work day on time and prepared, including dressed in the appropriate Mariani uniform.
  • Observe the Crew Leader during driving procedures to transition to the Crew Leader role. Under the supervision of the Crew Leader, perform driving tasks as necessary.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in and contribute to Mariani initiatives.
  • Recommend process improvements and areas to improve our service offerings to clients.
  • Participate in the snow removal process as necessary.
  • Participate in Holiday retail (i.e. creating wreaths, sale of trees, etc.).
  • Perform duties for other Mariani departments (i.e. Maintenance, Shop, Yard, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position has no supervisory responsibility for other employees. Although this position does not have direct supervisory responsibility, the Crew Leader in Training is expected to function as the supervisor in the Crew Leader’s absence.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 3-4 years experience in the landscape industry, preferably in a construction environment.
  • Must possess a current CDL License or working towards obtaining one.
  • Ability to speak and communicate in English.
  • Demonstrate good communication skills with crew, clients, and other Mariani associates, including the Crew Leader.
  • Demonstrate acceptable level of basic plant recognition and horticultural knowledge.
  • Ability to pass, or working towards, the CLT exam and maintain annual license requirements.
  • Ability to deliver quality results under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of equipment operation, including but not limited to, chainsaws, lawn equipment, backhoes, trenchers, transit, skid steer loaders, etc.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to safety and practicing safe work behaviors.
  • Demonstrate accountability for work being performed and completed on schedule.
  • Ability to lead and direct the work of others and delegate tasks.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work requires the ability to lift up to 150 lbs. on occasion, and frequently transport plant material around the job site up to 150 lbs. Physical requirements also include digging, lifting, bending, walking, carrying, and pushing (i.e. wheelbarrow) on a repetitive basis. The noise level at the job site may be loud when operating certain equipment, such as a chainsaw. Responsibilities may require evening and weekend work in response to client needs and deadlines.

Crew Member

POSITION SUMMARY

Perform basic landscape and construction tasks while following standard Mariani work methods and practicing safe work habits to provide quality service to our clients. This position is under the direction of a Crew Leader. This position does not require the operation of motorized equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Follow company policies, procedures, and work standards.
  • Adhere to instructions given by the Crew Leader, or the Crew Leader in Training when the Crew Leader is absent.
  • Communicate observations and concerns to the Crew Leader.
  • Maintain high standard of quality of all work performed.
  • Follow proper safety procedures and standards on a regular basis.
  • Dig holes and trenches as necessary for work completion.
  • Participate in the work performed at each job site, including pruning, mulching, planting, etc.
  • Participate in all necessary Mariani training with relation to equipment and safety.
  • Arrive for each work day on time and prepared, including dressed in the appropriate Mariani uniform.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in and contribute to Mariani initiatives.
  • Perform duties for other Mariani departments (i.e. Maintenance, Shop, Yard, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.
